The Glen

Comprising over 200 acres in the Town of Union, in the heart of the so-called Triple Cites region in New York State's Southern Tier, the Glen contains a mature forest with some of the oldest and largest trees in Broome County, and its cascading gorge is the region's finest.

For centuries people have enjoyed the Glen's majestic trees, cool waterfalls, colorful wildflowers, and abundant bird and animal life. We know that the region's native inhabitants must have loved this magical spot, and when white settlers began to arrive in the 18th century one of the first homesteaders built next to the Glen.

In the 1950s, the Glen was purchase and subsequently maintained by the IBM Corporation it was used for fitness and nature programs. From a casual walk with the dog, a cross country run, or spending the day cross country skiing, over the years, many IBM employees and guests fell in love with its natural beauty.

In 2006 the ownership of the propetry changed and the developer donated much of the property to the Fred L. Waterman Conservation Center and is now an educational, public conservation area.

While the property is owned and maintaing by the concervation center, the hiking trails which run behind our resort, are easily accesible to our guests through a private access point. Each trail length varies; from 0.7 miles, to our length trail at 2.0 miles.

We invite you and your family to enjoy all of our trails whether it’s for exercise or for an adventure. Come and enjoy the great outdoors of Upstate New York.
